The Ant Philosophy

by Brian Sylvan

Leave it to Jim Rohn, motivational speaker extraordinaire, to notice the Ant Philosophy. This is a powerful motivational philosophy that you can start using in your life immediately.

1. Ants never quit.

Ants don’t worry about the details. They just do. Their job is to gather food. That’s all they do, and they’re very good at it. They don’t quit.

Ants follow what’s called the “ant trail.” They don’t get lost as long as they follow the line. But sometimes, something obstructs their progress. The ant doesn’t dismay at the lost trail. Instead, the ants look around until they find the trail again. Powerful stuff.

Don’t ever quit. If you lose your way, keep looking until you pick up the scent again

2. Ants think winter all summer.

Why do they think winter? Because during the winter, they won’t be able to gather food. The summer’s all the time they have. Sometimes we spend too much time enjoying the summer that we don’t prepare for the inevitable winter. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t enjoy the summer. You should. But always remember, winter is coming.

The ants think more on the lines of “gather, gather, gather for tomorrow we die.” They know the winter is coming. They prepare while everything is going well, while the weather is beautiful. We winter comes it is too late.

3. Ants are thinking summer all winter.

I live in Minnesota. Sometimes it seems that summer won’t be coming this year. But it always does. Ants know this. Winter never lasts forever.

Of course, some winters are longer than others. But summer always comes. They sun will warm once again. Look forward to the day.

4. Ants think, “Gather all we can now.” Jim Rohn calls this the all-they-possibly-can philosophy.

Summer always follows spring and winter, right? Always. We’re not surprised when the leaves change colors at the end of summer. This is the natural order of things.

But sometimes we’re surprised by an early snowstorm. Or a colder than normal winter. Don’t be surprised, be prepared.

To summarize the ant philosophy:

1. Don’t quit.

2. Remember winter is coming.

3. Think summer all winter.

4. Live by the all-you-possibly-can philosophy.
